Some love from community members:
“This class was inspiring and brought back the love of learning for myself again. I have lost that piece a bit because I have let the little burdens of the teacher life slowly bring me down. Thank you for renewing that energy that I needed!” — Rockford Public School teacher
“I’m still finding it amazing that we have college level instructors providing animation classes to kids in the heart of our city. New Genres Art Space is exactly the kind of effort we have all been hoping for, and so so much more. THIS is the Rockford we’ve all been dreaming about!” — Hans Rupert, Rockford photographer and parent
"Rockford Public Library is honored to support New Genres Art Space in their mission of brining the value of new and digital art forms to therapeutic, educational, and community settings.” — RPL Executive Director, Lynn Stainbrook

Hi Rockford,
This is how we ask for donations. It’s grassroots. It’s small. It’s for anybody. There is not a membership and there are not any levels of giving. There isn’t a high-dollar seat at a dinner table or an auction. It’s just you and us—community members depending on each other.
People often ask what big grant we received or who the major donor is that allowed us to open New Genres Art Space. The answer is simple: there isn’t one. We’ve opened the space with a sense of resourcefulness, a little bit of our savings, support from the Rockford Public Library and local artists, and a bunch of love from our friends, colleagues, and family. But, to continue—to become sustainable—we need your help.
Where does your donation go? Well, we pay every artist, hired teacher, assistant, or a performer. We believe in setting best business practices from the very beginning of our nonprofit as well as making sure each creative individual is being compensated for their work—creative work is not free. Your donation goes farther than paying fair compensation, it keeps all of our major programming free to the public—exhibitions, performances, the Speaker Series, or the Rockford Visual Arts Archive, to name a few.
Behind the scenes of New Genres Art Space we are two university art educators who are passionate about contemporary art, critical inquiry, social justice, sustainability, equity, and the power of a progressive education. Beyond our professional titles and academic experience, we are a goofy married couple with a wild two-year-old son who loves to go camping in Wisconsin.
Listen, we’ve truly felt your love, but now we need your support.
With warmest regards,
Jason & Iga
